That's unfortunate. [ And she really does sound upset by that. Food is what brings people together, but she supposes that as long as he can taste, it should be alright. ]
But, if you can at least taste then that's somethin'.
[Is that how he tastes? Kate laughs, holding her stomach as she does, because it's still novel. Connor is funny, and he doesn't even realize it, but she's not laughing at him, not directly, anyway.]
[Well, he touches things and then puts them to his mouth. So yes and no. He also really isn't sure what's funny, so he just looks confused as she laughs.]
Have I said something amusing? I'm sorry, I don't understand.
[He doesn't seem put off or anything, it's just a genuine question.]
I think I see where I confused you, now. I don't taste with my fingers. I tend to touch my fingers to what I want to taste, and then lick them. It generally gives me enough of a sample to identify what I need from it.
[He could go around just straight licking carpets but CyberLife had a little more tact than that. Only a little, though.]
You know, hun. People in Japan give offerings of food to their deceased family. An' they can't eat either. It's more of a symbolic thing, to let them know that they're loved and people are thinkin' about them. In the same vein, I'd like to do the same for you.
[Oh, that's... really sweet, actually. Sweet enough that Connor isn't sure what to do with it for a moment. He smiles, lowers his gaze, and then looks up again with a fond look in his eyes.]
I'm not- I mean, nobody has ever... I don't think anyone likes me that much, but... thank you.
I just wasn't sure we'd known each other long enough for that.
[Now, Connor calls people "friend" pretty readily... Hank is an obvious example. He's only a few months old, so a few days is a reasonable amount of time to him. That said, nobody has ever said they have any kind of love for him. He doesn't think Kate means it romantically, but it's still a big jump to him. One he's entirely happy to accept, if Kate means it.]
I'm not sure what any kind of love feels like, but... I know that I like you a lot, too.
[That's generally how Connor goes about it, too- though he's always longed for something deeper. A friendship like his one with Hank, he's realised, is rare- and it doesn't come in minutes usually. But Kate seems like she'll become a good friend too, and he's grateful for that. He wants to connect with people, human or android or... whatever else this place can bring.
Good friends hug, don't they? He moves closer and wraps his arms around her in a grateful embrace.]
[She wraps her arms around him too, a squeeze that's tight. Reassuring and welcoming, the same kind she'd used for those who'd come out of their trials worse for the wear, through being killed or sacrificed.
She's learned to give an excellent hug, and he'll get one from her readily.]
[When he pulls away he's wearing a genuine smile, the kind that reaches his eyes. Having friends feels great, or maybe Kate is just an excellent hugger. He wonders how he is at hugging... probably a little stiff, having only hugged three people in his life now.]
I'm sorry, I'm probably not the best at giving hugs... would making myself warmer help? Or holding tighter?
You're fine, hun. [She says, still loosely holding him by the waist.] The most important part of a hug is to mean it, I think. That you let people know you're there for them. At least, that's what I think, anyway.
Depends on the friends. Some of 'em just hang out and chat, like we are now, some of them go shopping. Maybe watch TV shows, or play games or sports. Or just go out to dinner. Sometimes you ain't even need any of that, sometimes you can just sit in a room with someone and that's all you need, no words or nothin'.
Well... I mean, if you want to make it a date, I think I'd like that.
[Is this how you ask someone on a date? Connor doesn't know, but he does know that he's quite taken with Kate and a date seems like it would be... nice. As long as she wasn't just pulling his leg, because then he'd feel silly...]
Though you might wanna be a little more firm when asking a gal for a date. Maybe some flowers an' something like, "Miss Denson," [She starts, embellishing her movements with a little dramatic flair as she pretends to hide a bouquet of flowers behind her back.] "I'd like to ask you to dinner an' a movie, if you'd be willing." [She brings out her imaginary bouquet, offering it to him.]
[Kate holds it together right up until he says that last line, at which she laughs, loud and clear and absolutely not at him at all. In truth, she's delighted, and she'll take the roses he offers, holding them to her chest closely with one hand, and reaching out to gently touch his cheek with her other.]
I'd be honoured to be your date, Connor.
[And then she winks playfully.] I'll make a romantic out of you yet.

[Maybe she could leave him a few scraps to analyse.]
I'm still learning what counts as sweet or savoury, and I've never had anything sour, but I know I don't like black coffee.
no subject
Of course, hun. Anythin' you want, you got.

[She waves her hand, leans back against the counter nearest her.]
I've got a lot of learnin' to do about people from other places. I think I told you, but I'm only from 2018, we ain't got androids like you.

[He smiles a little again.]

[Thankfully, Connor is an android, and that means that she doesn't have to worry about things like backwash. Hopefully.]
Maybe we could cook together an' we can just give you smaller portions?
no subject
[Y'know, since he can't eat the portions he's given.]
I'd like that, though.
[He seems pleased by the prospect.]

[She gives his arm a squeeze.]
I prefer to make mine in minutes. If you don't feel the same way, that's alright too. We got all the time in the world.

This may seem like an odd question, but what else do friends do together?
[He's honestly not sure, but he wants to know what he can do with her and his other friends.]

[He could just sit in a room and not talk to Kate, but that seems like a waste of their time.]

[Kate hides a laugh behind her fist as she finally pulls away from Connor, if only so she can more readily meet his gaze. ]
Though if you wanted one, I don't think I'd be too opposed.

[He seems surprised, but pleasantly so.]

Makes a girl feel special, y'know?

[He pauses, then makes a "wait here" motion. He heads off for a moment, before coming back with a bouquet of roses and a smile.]
Miss Denson, I'd like the honour of taking you for dinner and a movie.
[He holds out the roses. See, he can learn!]
I want to make you feel as special as you really are.
[He says it softly, genuinely.]
